Meet Bruce a 2 year old Chow mix coming in right under 60lbs! He was found with patchy hair and awful skin, with lots of love and TLC our partners at the shelter got him all fixed up. He’s now ready for a home!
Some important things to know about Bruce, one, he isn’t fan of the crate. If you live in a condo, duplex, apartment, etc. He isn’t the one for you. He will whine, and cry, and bark, the entire time he is crated. We think with some positive reinforcement and continued training he could learn to tolerate it better. He doesn’t try to break free, or make a mess, he just wants you to know he is NOT happy.
This young guy needs plenty of exercise and a fenced in yard may be best. Chow’s are known to be stubborn and sometimes demand things happen on THEIR terms. Bruce was returned twice to the shelter for similar reasons, they both included the adopter using negative reinforcement. Once he was scolded by being grabbed by the neck, and another he got away and the owner was yelling and trying to grab him, this got a growl from Bruce. He has never surpassed that growl, and with someone understanding and willing to train him in a positive way, he will cause NO issues!
We think somebody with Chow or similar breed experience, or very knowledgeable in dog training will do the best for Bruce. He is very social with people and other dogs! No cats or bunnies, Bruce thinks they’re toys. We are unsure if he is 100% house trained at this time.
Bruce will come neutered, UTD on shots and preventative, and micro chipped.
Bruce ‘s adoption fee is $250, and adopters must live within 175 miles of the Quad City Area.
If interested in meeting Bruce you must fill out the online application at www.k9kindnessrescue.org/adopt/application
